The High Council on Statistics (CSE) is chaired by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business, and its Vice-Chair is the President of the INE. It currently has more than 50 members, half of whom represent the General State Administration (AGE) and the other half represent various institutions.

The following bodies are represented by the AGE:

  • The National Statistics Institute
  • Ministerial departments (all represented at Director-General level or above)
  • The Tax Agency (represented at Deputy Director-General level)

The institutional representatives include:

  • Trade unions and employers’ organisations
  • Social, economic and academic institutions

The CSE operates through its Plenary and its Standing Commission:

  • The Plenary, chaired by the Minister, meets once a year to review the activities of the Standing Commission and adopt resolutions of particular importance.
  • The Standing Commission, chaired by the President of the INE, comprises twelve members and normally meets three times a year to approve statistical operations for state purposes.
